Dr. Prince Pambo, Ghana’s senior national team doctor, has shared crucial updates on several players who were unable to join the squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Central Africa Republic due to various injuries.
Ghana will face Central African Republic in their final Group E game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
Unfortunately, the squad will be missing some key players, including Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey, Kamal Deen Sulemana, and Joseph Wollacott.
Here’s a breakdown of the injury updates:
Thomas Partey (Arsenal, England): The midfielder suffered a groin injury during training on Thursday, August 31, 2023. Unfortunately, he is currently unavailable, with club doctors estimating that he may be side-lined for a few weeks.
Daniel Amartey (Beskitas, Turkey): Amartey sustained a hamstring injury on Sunday, August 27, 2023, during training. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation and is expected to be out of action for approximately two weeks.
Majeed Ashimeru (Anderlect, Belgium): Ashimeru picked up a hamstring injury in early August during training and is likely to be unavailable for a couple of weeks as he recovers.
Joseph Wollacott (Hibernian, Scotland): Wollacott suffered a thigh (quadriceps) injury in mid-August during training. Unfortunately, he faces a longer recovery period, with an estimated absence of eight weeks from the date of the injury.
Kamal Deen Sulemana (Southampton, England): The winger experienced a hamstring injury sometime in July. While he is making progress and engaging in fieldwork and ball exercises, he has yet to rejoin team training. Club doctors anticipate that he should be back in action in a couple of weeks.
Mohammed Salisu (Monaco, France): Salisu is currently undergoing rehabilitation with his club due to a long-standing injury related to Osteitis Pubis. The club’s medical staff will continue to provide updates on his recovery progress.
Benjamin Tetteh (Metz, France): Tetteh suffered a quadriceps injury on Friday, August 25, 2023, during training. He is expected to be side-lined for approximately three weeks, as indicated by his club doctors.
Despite the absence of these players, the Black Stars remain determined and focused as they prepare to face the Central African Republic in the crucial AFCON qualifier.
A win or draw for the Black Stars will secure their qualification for next year’s AFCON, to be held in Ivory Coast.
