CHAN 2022: Host nation Algeria defeats Libya in opener

Host nation Algeria defeated Libya by a lone goal in the opener of the 2022 CHAN championship at the Nelson Mandela sports stadium.

Both nations paraded the best of talents from their domestic leagues for the cagey opening with the first half ending in a goalless draw.
Algeria had some great scoring opportunities in the first half but saw all efforts gone wasted.

Algeria however broke the deadlock of the game in the 57th minute from the spot through Aimen Mahious which went on to be the only goal of the game.

The 2014 CHAN champions Libya came close to getting the equaliser but saw their effort being denied by the woodworks in the 75th minute. 
Ethiopia will take on Mozambique in the other group A game on Saturday, January 14 with Dr Congo playing Uganda and Ivory Coast taking on Senegal in group B.
