I witnessed whatever happened last Sunday at the Sunyani Coronation park during the Division One League game between BA United and Real Tamale United and I must say what happened is very shameful, barbaric and uncalled for.
Things didn’t go on well from RTU supporters throwing eggs on the field before kick off, home supporters entering the inner perimeter to chase the referees and officiating in general.
But none of this should warrant whatever happened. Coronation park has been a very peaceful venue for the last five years so we asked what happened.
Holiganism has been a major problem in Ghana football but it has been worst this season that I think we are having a very competitive leagues, Division One and the Premier league.
Some of the major cause of this holiganism is bad officiating and selective Justice happening in our football especially from Zone One of the Division One League.
Somewhere in the first round of the Division, Nkoranza Worriors we alleging of assault by RTU Supporters and complained about bad conduct of match officials and up to now nothing has come out of that. Anytime an incidents happens in any of the BA venues the DC will quickly ban the venue but there have been so many instances it has happened at Tamale Sports Stadium but the DC has turn deaf ears to that.
When things like this happens it doesn’t help the peaceful nature we expect in our league because all the clubs are equally investing huge in their verious teams.
There was an allegations that the FA and even some people in government are pushing for a northern team to qualify from Zone One, the FA president some months ago denied that when he came to Sunyani, but such decisions may give room for those who alleged to believe such allegations.
What has happened to Bofoakwa Tano FC protest against Unity FC in May?
On officiating we all know how bad it has been this season, a lot if referees been given series of bans.
I will say Referee Maxwell Hanson did not help at all, his performance was abysmal. In a tension match like this you don’t put up such performance.
His call for that penalty to me was wrong, when BA United had same twice but he denied, and showing yellow cards to BA United players whiles allowing Real Tamale United players go free whenever they also commit same offense.
So in short, if we want to put a stop to Holiganism in our football the DC must be fair in administering justice, Team A is punished for wrong doing same must be given to Team B if commit. There should be equal Rights and Justice and I think holigans may not have any opportunity to operate.
Our referees must also be free and fair, club officials must stop influencing out referees.
