The Black stars of Ghana finally grabbed that important victory they’ve been after in their last 6 World cup games with a magical performance in a 5goal thriller at the Education City sports stadium on Monday afternoon.
Otto Addo’s men defeated South Korea by 3-2 in their second group game.
The Ghanaian trainer made few changes to the side that lost 3-2 to Portugal on the opening day, bringing in Tariq Lamptey, Gideon Mensah and Jordan Ayew in place of Alidu Seidu, Baba Rahman and Alexander Djiku.
The tigers of South Korea started the game on a blistering note, creating a lot of chances but failed to penetrate the Ghanaian defence.
Ghana however broke the deadlocks of the game in the 24th minute through Salisu Mohammed.
The Southampton centre back pounced on a lose ball in the 18yard box and slotted home his first ever world cup goal for the West African giants.
Kudus Mohammed doubled Ghana’s lead with a powering header, beating the offside trap to outjump Kim Min-Jae to flick home a Jordan Ayew cross.
Gue-Sung Cho pulled one back for Korea in the second half when he got into the box to connect home a cross from the right side to pull one back for the tigers.
Cho scored again two minutes later to restore parity for Paulo Bento’s side.
Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus restored Ghana’s lead in the 68th minute to hand Ghana their first victory of the competition.
Ghana would now shift attention to their last group game against Uruguay on Friday, with the hope of grabbing a victory to advance to the next round and also as a revenge for the painful elimination in the 2010 edition.
