The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku has announced that Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs would receive an impressive sum of GHC 50,000 to encourage the establishment of dedicated youth teams.
This is an effort to combat the recent decline of juvenile football in Ghana and enhance the performance of national youth teams.
He made this known while speaking at the GFA 29th Ordinary Congress held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
GFA President Kurt Okraku said “Each Ghana Premier League club is to be supported with GHC 50,000 for setting up a youth team. Clubs would also get 25,000 when two of their youth players feature in more than 15 games.”
The GFA president also revealed that an amount of $100,000 will specifically go into the purchase of quality boots for colts players.
“We will invest $100,000 into colts football. This money will serve as a means of buying football to our kids,” he stated
The GFA’s initiative seeks to revitalize juvenile football in Ghana, ensuring a stronger foundation for the country’s future football success. The decline in recent years has raised concerns, prompting the association to take proactive measures to reverse the trend.
Kurt Okraku’s first term as GFA President comes to an end in October, as he seeks re-election for another four-year mandate. Election is scheduled for later this year.
