Ghana international Kamaldeen Sulemana has had his red card overturned by the FA after Southampton’s successful appeal against the winger’s three-match ban.
Kamaldeen was shown a straight red card by referee Bobby Madley for a foul on Leicester’s James Justin during injury time of Southampton’s 4-1 defeat against Leicester City on Friday.
The 21 year-old forward was initially set to be suspended for Southampton’s next three matches against Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough and Leeds United but he will no longer serve a ban.
Southampton announced on Twitter: “Kamaldeen = available 🙌 #SaintsFC has successfully appealed the red card shown to Kamaldeen Sulemana on Friday night.”
After the game on Friday, Southampton manager Russell Martin commented on the incident, saying, “I’ve not seen it back, but it didn’t feel like a red card. James Justin said that it wasn’t a red card, but his reaction to the foul gave him it.’’
Kamaldeen will now be eligible for selection in Southampton’s EFL Championship match against Ipswich Town on Tuesday, September 19.
