Ghana winger Mohammed Kudus impressed as West Ham came from a goal down to secure a 3-1 victory against Serbian club Backa Topola in their Europa League opener at London Stadium.
The Serbian side scored the first goal of the game, but an own goal by Nemanja Petrovic equalized for West Ham.
The turning point of the match came when Kudus expertly headed the ball into the net, giving West Ham a 2-1 lead. Tomas Soucek scored West Ham’s third goal to seal the victory.
Speaking after the match, Kudus emphasized his dedication to the team and praised the atmosphere at West Ham.
“I am here to help the team and as you can see today we got the three points. It feels like I’ve been here for a long time already, everybody has made me feel like part of the family. I just do what the coach tells me. The most important thing is we’re winning” Kudus told TNT Sports
West Ham manager David Moyes also expressed his delight with Kudus’s performance, stating ,”I was really pleased because he scored a couple of goals for Ajax as well before he joined us. I think for him to get another goal tonight was really important for us. We needed it at the time, we needed a goal to come from somewhere.’’
Kudus joined West Ham this summer from dutch giants Ajax for a fee of £38m and has so far featured in 3 games for the Hammers.
