Hearts of Oak defender, Samuel Inkoom has revealed that his current contract with the club will expire at the end of this month.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News, the former FC Basel player emphasized that he will not discuss contract renewal until his current agreement concludes.
“At the moment I have a contract, so I don’t talk about my contract. Even though I know my contract is supposed to finish this month, I have certain things in my contract that unless the contract finishes before I will start talking about a new contract,” Inkoom explained.
The 34- year-old defender joined Hearts of Oak in the 2021/2022 season and has so far featured in 33 matches for the club, winning the FA Cup.
The Under-20 FIFA World Cup winner expressed his ambition to contribute to the development of young talents in the sport, emphasizing, “After retiring, I want to help the young ones develop very well.” To achieve this goal, Inkoom plans to delve into sports management, with a particular focus on talent scouting and nurturing emerging players.
He highlighted the abundance of talent within Ghana but lamented the lack of suitable platforms for young players to showcase their skills.
Inkoom stated, “We have the talents, but they need a good platform to also showcase themselves. The problem we are having is that we don’t have too much facilities for our young players to develop.”
Inkoom also lauded the ongoing project at the Kpobiman Sports Complex initiated by Hearts of Oak’s board chair, Togbe Afede XIV. The Kpobiman Project, which began in 2020, aims to provide essential facilities such as Staff Residences, Senior Housing Units, a Gymnasium, Training Centres, and more.
‘’This is the facilities we need for the young players to develop. We need this kind of facilities’’. He added
Samuel Inkoom made his senior debut for the Black Stars in 2008 against Tunisia and went on to make 44 appearances.
