A well deserved semi-final game which most people saw it as the actual final match because of it’s intensity.
It was Federico Chiesa who gave the Italians the lead on the hour when he curled a great effort past Unai Simon into the back of the net but substitute Alvaro Morata came off the bench to equalize with a cool finish with 10 minutes remaining, thanks to a fantastic assist from Dani Olmo.
Neither side could find a breakthrough in extra time and Jorginho netted the decisive penalty in the shootout after Olmo missed and Morata saw his spot-kick saved, Locatelli’s spot-kick was initially saved by Simon but wasn’t enough to send them to the finals.
Italy’s unbeaten run is now at 33 matches in all competitions after knocking out Spain and they will take on either Denmark or England in the final on Sunday at Wembley.
