Ghanaian goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati Zigi, has been named the best goalkeeper in the Swiss Super League for the 2022/23 season. Ati Zigi, who plays for St. Gallen, made a total of 103 saves out of 146 shots faced, giving him a save rate of 70%.
Ati Zigi’s performance has earned him a place in the Swiss Association of Football Players (SAFP) Golden 11 of the season. The award is given to the best players in their respective positions in the league.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper expressed his gratitude for the recognition on Instagram. “It is truly a great honor to receive this award… Thank you for the support and recognition and to those who made this possible. Thank you all. It’s really a pleasure. God bless you all,” he wrote.
Ati Zigi has been a key player for St. Gallen this season, making a total of 101 saves in the league, the most by any goalkeeper. His impressive performances have helped his team finish in sixth place on the league table.
The FC St. Gallen goalkeeper defeated three other candidates to earn the starting spot in the Golden 11 for the 2022–23 season.
For the top position, Ati-Zigi faced up against Jeremy Frick of Servette FC, Anthony Racioppi of Young Boys, and Andre Moreira of Grasshopper FC.
The Ghanaian international has previously played for clubs such as Red Bull Salzburg, Sochaux, and FC Liefering. He joined St. Gallen in 2019 and has become a fan favorite due to his outstanding performances.
