Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif has revealed that the country still owes outstanding payments of salaries to former Black Stars head coaches C.K Akonnor and Milovan Rajevac.
According to the Minister of Youth and Sport, the coaches’ contracts were terminated, and upon negotiation of their exit, both were paid $100,000 each.
Speaking about the situation at a press briefing in Accra today, Minister Mustapha Ussif confirmed that both coaches have expressed their concerns and threatened legal action against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) if the payment issue remains unresolved. The Minister assured the coaches that the government is committed to settling their dues as soon as funds become available.
“We still owe both of them, and we have a payment scheduled which I will admit we have not followed because of constraints of funds. As and when we get funds, we will be paying the two coaches. Both of them have written to the FA threatening to go to court. We have appealed to them that we are committed in making sure that we settle them,” stated Minister Mustapha Ussif.
C.K Akonnor, who was appointed as the head coach of Black Stars in January 2020, had his contract terminated in September 2021. Milovan Rajevac replaced C.K Akonnor in September 2021 and was sacked in January 2022 following an  abysmal performance by Ghana at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Black Stars is currently headed by former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton.
