Medeama SC and Dreams FC make history by securing qualification to the group stage of their respective CAF inter-club competitions.
In the CAF Champions League, Medeama SC faced a tough challenge against Horoya AC of Guinea in the second round qualifiers. Despite losing 2-1 in the second leg, Medeama SC progressed on a 4-3 aggregate score over two legs.
Medeama forward Jonathan Sowah provided an early lead through a penalty kick, but Ocansey Mandela equalised for Horoya AC two minutes later.
Horoya added a second goal in the 76th minute through Mohamed Keita, but Medeama SC held their ground and secured their spot in the group stage.
In the Confederation Cup, Dreams FC drew 1-1 with Kallon Stars of Sierra Leone, progressing on a 3-2 aggregate score following a 2-1 win in Accra two weeks ago.
Agyenim Boateng Mensah’s early penalty gave Dreams FC an advantage, and despite a late equalizer from Kallon FC, Dreams FC secured their first group stage appearance in their maiden Confederation Cup campaign.
This historic achievement marks the first time in over a decade that two Ghanaian clubs have progressed to the group stage of CAF competitions, recalling the successful campaigns of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in 2006.
