Canadian and Bayern Munich star, Alphonso Davies has revealed that his mother wasn’t in support of the decision of he trying to play for Ghana.

Speaking on Say Less podcast, the Ghanaian born defender revealed that Ghana didn’t reach put formerly to him and his mother wasn’t even in support of the idea of he representing the West African nation.

“Ghana never reached out and also my mum was like, no [to the idea of me playing for Ghana],” he disclosed on the Say Less podcast.

“I was playing like not even like the academy they never like said [anything about wanting me] I wasn’t a big name. When the news came out that I was going to Bayern, then I got a message from the Ghana Federation.

“I think it was someone from the federation who texted me on Instagram because he didn’t have my number or email but it was too late. At that time I already got my citizenship and made it to Canada.”

Born in Ghana to Liberian parents, Davies obtained Canadian citizenship in June 2017; he was until then a Liberian national. Later that month, he became the youngest player to appear for the Canada national team where he was selected in CONCACAF Gold Cup Best XI as well as winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup Bright Future Award. He also won the CONCACAF Gold Cup Golden Boot Award in 2017.

He has featured in 39 matches for Canada and has scored 13 goals
