Ghanaian winger Osman Bukari had a memorable yet bittersweet UEFA Champions League debut for Red Star Belgrade.
Despite scoring a stunning goal in the first half, his team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of reigning champions Manchester City on Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old winger’s goal was initially flagged offside but stood after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review.
However, Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez equalized just two minutes into the second half, setting the stage for a dramatic turn of events.
Alvarez secured his brace in the 60th minute, and Rodrigo added a third goal for Manchester City in the 73rd minute, sealing a 3-1 victory for the English side.
Reflecting on the game, Osman Bukari expressed his determination for Red Star Belgrade to bounce back stronger, stating on Twitter, “Unfortunately, not the results we wanted but we will come back stronger! Thank y’all for the support.”
Bukari has been in great form this season, amassing four goals and two assists in seven matches across all competitions.
Red Star Belgrade will have another opportunity to make their mark in the UEFA Champions League when they host Swiss club Young Boys on October 4 in Matchday 2.
