Ghanaian striker Jonathan Sowah showcased his brilliance by scoring a brace, leading Medeama to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Dreams FC in the Champions of Champions Cup at Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday night.
The Champions of Champions Cup is a curtain-raiser for the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League season.
It typically features the winners of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup from the previous season
Sowah’s extraordinary performance began in the 19th minute when he opened the scoring for the reigning Ghana Premier League with a clinical finish.
Just five minutes later, the 24-year-old forward struck again, putting his side firmly in control of the contest and leaving Dreams FC stunned.
Despite Medeama’s dominance, Dreams FC didn’t go down without a fight. Agyenim Boateng managed to pull a goal back for the FA Cup holders, converting a penalty just 11 minutes before full time, injecting a dose of suspense into the match.
Sowah’s outstanding contributions earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match accolade, recognizing his pivotal role in securing the victory.
The victory held special significance for Jonathan Sowah, who received a national team call-up to represent Ghana in the upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Central African Republic.
After the game, an emotional Sowah expressed his joy, saying, “This is a dream that I have been waiting for. This is a dream that my mum(R.I.P) has been crying for, that she wants to see her son maybe at the top. I am so happy and everything goes to God.”
This triumph marks Medeama’s second Champions of Champions Cup victory, with their first win against Ashanti Gold in Accra back in 2017.
