Real Madrid came back from a two goal deficit to defeat Liverpool 5-2 at Anfield in the first leg of the round of 16 tie.
The two giants came into the game having met in the final of last season’s Champions League with the Galacticos emerging victorious.
The game lit up in quick fashion as the Reds took the lead in the 4th minute through a Darwin Nunez flick after a threaded pass from Salah.
Klopp’s men looked like they meant business as they doubled their lead in the 14th minute after a Cortois howler gifted Salah a goal.
Real Madrid pulled one back in the 21st minute after Vinicius Jnr slotted the ball past Alisson into the bottom corner to begin the comeback.
In the 36th minute, Ancelotti’s men had their equaliser through another goalkeeper howler as Alisson failed to clear his lines to hand over Vinicius Jnr a fluke goal.
With the scores level at half time, it was all to play for in the second half even though there was a second leg tie to play in two weeks time.
Real Madrid started the second half from where they left off in the first and scored their third two minutes into the second half after a Modric cross found the head of Eder Militao.
There was no stopping at this point for Madrid as they scored a fourth in the 55th minute through talisman Benzema and added a fifth in the 62nd through Benzema again.
“When we were 2-0 down, I was thinking about the comeback against City.” – Coach Carlo Ancelotti on the victory.
“We’re going to have another great match at the Bernabéu.We want to win the Champions League.I want to dedicate this match to our Honorary President, Amancio. This victory is for him.” – Karim Benzema’s words on the win.
